Penis On Wheels 2010

It began with a dream. I woke up after having a long period of sleep and decided to make a sculpture of male genitalia. I went to the Armory Arts Center in West Palm Beach, Fl and I started to construct a penis out of clay. After the piece was fired in the kiln, I added toy wheels. It was at the time called “My Recollection”.

The sculpture was an anti-war piece. I entered the sculpture in an exhibition at the Armory Arts Center, but shortly after, the sculpture was removed from the exhibition because children were visiting the Armory. After the show, I discovered that when people did not realize that the scupture was an anti-war piece, they would laugh at the sculpture. So the piece got a name change to “Penis On Wheels”.

I had an epiphany. I realized that I wanted to leave the perception of my art up to the viewer. I wanted to have my sculptures viewed with an open mind.

I then decided to make a bronze “Penis On Wheels”. This 8″ x 6″ x 3″ sculpture was exhibited in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl in a show call “The Myth of Power”. Since then, it has traveled to Ferrara, Italy for a show called “Earth Vortices” and then off to Canada for a show called “Limitless Expressions”. Both of these shows were presented by Vivid Arts Network.

Penis On Wheels has been widely received by the public. But as in all things, people have different opinions about the sculpture. It is seen as a symbol of war, rape, a man’s ego, a man and his car, power and an oversexed male.

Then the consensus was that people wanted the sculpture to roll around on it’s wheels. So I decided to go big!
